Push takeoff quantities to estimating or budget

The budget handoff is where bad takeoff habits become expensive. Only move quantities forward after scale, category, room, and sheet context have been reviewed.

Before handoff

  1. Verify scale on every measured sheet.
  2. Confirm categories map to how you estimate or code work.
  3. Review room/area assignments if the estimate is location-based.
  4. Remove test measurements and internal-only notes.
  5. Export a summary with page references where possible.

Map to the destination

If quantities are going to BuildTools, Excel, QuickBooks, or another estimating system, map Redliner categories to the destination cost codes or line items before importing. Do not let a generic “misc” bucket swallow real scope.

Keep the audit trail

A quantity without sheet context is just a number. Keep the PDF page, category, room, and revision attached to the export so a reviewer can trace it later.
