Frequently Asked Questions

Workspaces

How many people can I invite into a workspace?
There is no limit to how many people you can invite into a Redliner workspace. However, to join the workspace each person must create his or her own Redliner account.
Is there a limit to how many workspaces I can create?
No. You can create as many Redliner workspaces as you wish.
Some documents have disappeared from a workspace, why?
Documents disappear from the workspace for two reasons: they are either deleted or “hidden” by a workspace member. Hidden documents can by accessed by checking the “show hidden files” box at the upper right hand corner of the workspace. You can restore hidden documents to the workspace view by checking the “+” sign next to the document link, selecting “properties” and removing the check mark from the “hidden” box next to “Attributes.”
Can I retrieve a document that another member of the workspace deleted?
The Redliner beta does not provide a way to retrieve a document that has been deleted. However, the commercial release of Redliner will offer this feature.

Document Creation, Collaboration and Printing

Why does the formatting disappear when I copy text from another source and paste it into a Redliner document?
The Redliner beta offers limited text formatting. Text formatting that is currently unsupported, such as bullets and numbering, is not preserved when pasted into a Redliner document. All standard text formatting will be supported and upon commercial release.
Why does the formatting disappear when I import Word documents?
Many of the Word formatting features are not yet supported in the Redliner beta. Those that aren't will generally be ignored for display purposes and will not be preserved when you publish changes. Most of the original formatting of imported documents (bullets, tables, etc.) will be supported and preserved in the commercial release.
Can I restrict access to a document so only some members of the workspace can view it?
Redliner workspaces are designed to allow a group of users to easily access a common set of documents. Separate workspaces can be created with different members to control access to certain documents.
Can I control the level of access to a document, allowing some people to edit, some only to make comments, and some just to read it?
With the Redliner beta, every workspace member has full editing capabilities. Leveled access will be available in the commercial release.
Why can’t I use the scroll wheel on my mouse to scroll through a document?
Your internet browser may interfere with scrolling function of your mouse scroll wheel.
I posted a comment in a document and another member of the workspace published a clean version before I received a response. Does that mean the person I directed the comment to won’t see it?
No. The person to whom you directed the comment will still have a notification in his or her “What needs my attention” window that links to the version of the document that contained your comment. If additional activity occurs in the newly published version of the same document, the document may show up twice in the “What needs my attention” window of that member. However, the links to the document will display different publication dates/times so that it is easy to determine the order of events.
I created and saved a document; why can’t I print it from the workspace?
You must “publish” documents before you can print them.

Redliner Dashboard and Auto Notifications

Why doesn’t the comment I placed in a document show up in the “What I’m waiting on” window of my dashboard?
Comments are tracked in your “What I’m waiting on window” only when you have specified that a response is required.
How do workspace members know when they have pending redlines?
Every time workspace members “Save & Distribute” changes to a published document a notification appears in the dashboard of all other members under “What needs my attention.” If workspace members do not have Redliner open, their first dashboard notification will trigger an email alert. (One email alert is sent per 24-hour period until members access their Redliner accounts.) Each time members access and exit Redliner, the email alert system is re-enabled.

Versions and History

How do I access previous versions of a document?
To access a previous version, open the document and go to the document name, which appears in red type at the top of the screen. To the right of the document name, you’ll see the date and time that the version you are viewing was published and who published it. Click on the drop down arrow to the right of this information and a list appears of all previous versions. Simply select the version you wish to view.
How do I restore portions of a previous version?
You can copy portions of a previous version and paste them into the current version, or if you’d like to restore the entire text of a previous version you can open it and “publish” it. This immediately makes it the new current version for the workspace.

Security, Hosting and Retention

How secure is my Redliner data?
Security features have not been implemented in the Redliner beta, but state-of-the-art SSL encryption, similar to the technology used by online banking and backup services, will be available in our commercial release. At that time, clients can choose to encrypt all data in their Redliner workspaces and have full control of the passwords required for access. Data will be encrypted at the client end and remain indecipherable during transfer and storage on our servers.
Where is my Redliner data hosted?
Data created with the Redliner beta is hosted on our servers. When Redliner is released commercially, clients will have the option of hosting data on our secured servers or on their own appliance PC incorporated into their Local Area Network.
How long is my Redliner data retained?

Documents and workspaces created with the Redliner beta will be saved for as long as the associated account is maintained.

Our product roadmap also includes a “retention policy” feature. This will allow clients to set parameters for various retention policies and flag documents accordingly. Alerts will automatically be issued when deletion is appropriate, along with prompts to complete the action. Clients who choose to host their data locally will determine their own retention/deletion mechanisms.

Pricing

What does Redliner cost?
